Two Fatal Car Accidents Still Under Investigation

In Lancaster, police are still investigating a devastating crash that killed four people dead in October. Although there are drivers involved, none have as yet been charged with any crimes, negligence, or held under police custody.

It was a two car collision in which one car side-swiped another, forcing off the road and into a tree. The passengers were all old in this crash, and could not survive the injuries they received.

In the other accident, one car collided into a motorcycle on Route 70. The motorcycle riders were both killed, hit by the car, and skidded down the highway.

Yesterday on October 30^th, a case which was brought to the attention of the court in 2000, actually started. Linda A. Rice was the woman who filed the lawsuit against the Miners Memorial Medical Center, specifically against Dr. Thomas J. Dimberger.

Madeline Kmetz was the woman who died in 2000, and who Rice is representing the interests of. No one has released the amount of damages that Rice is sueing for. The case is suspected to go into next year.

Two Airplane Accidents in Utah

There have been two small airplane crashes in the last several months, both in Utah. The first happened August 8^th. Near Salt Lake City, three men from Blanding were killed as they were flying back from their trip. However, they did not reach the Monticello airport like they planned. Investigators are blaming the pilot for the crash that killed the men. Reporters say that the pilot did not maintain clearance of the ground while maneuvering close to the ground. The names of the three men were Eric Johnson, Kim Acton, and Brian Bayles.

The other accident happened in Southwest Utah. This was a homemade plane flown by William Phillips, a man from Las Vegas. His wife was also flying with him, though she is only listed in critical condition, Phillips died at the scene. Police believe the cause of the crash was due to some unforeseen mechanical problems.

Teenager Sent to Hospital after Accident

This week in Wildwood, there was a bike/car accident on the Atlantic Avenue. Police report that the young man on his bicycle went through the intersection against the light, going through the red light. The young man was hit by a 34 year old man in a truck. The teen was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. There is no news on the condition of the young man or if he has been released.

There are no charges expected in the case and no further investigation will be undertaken.

Three High School Students Injured in Car Accident

Last Tuesday, three junior girls were injured in a two-car accident. Taylor Pelly, Sara cane, and Alyssa Brochu were driving in Pelley’s Jetta, when she lsot control of the car. She struck a man by the name of John Halapia, who was driving a pickup truck.

Take to three different hospitals, all three girls are now listed in stable condition, though Pelley was taken by helicopter from the scene. The man, Halapia, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries received in the car accident.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident in San Diego

Yesterday in San Diego, California, two men riding a motorcycle were killed. It was early in the morning when the two men hit a semi-truck at more than 60mph. They and their motorcycle slid under the trailer and carriage, killing one man at the scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. However, both men died. One was a sailor at the nearby Camp Pendleton, still unidentified, but said to be in his early twenties.

Ironically this accident happened only a month after the U.S. Navy sponsored a motorcycle safety course for all of its sailors. Apparently, there has been a recent flare-up of motorcycle accidents in San Diego by U.S. Navy personnel, with over nine marines being involved in fatal accidents over the past year.

Minnesota High School Football Player Dies in Car Accident

Chris Miller a high school football player in Sanborn, MN died this week in a car accident 150 miles from Minneapolis. Having finished sitting out football practice at Red Rock Central high school, Miller and his two friends planned to drive a girl’s volleyball game in Edgerton.

Due to the high speed of the vehicle, the car flipped over on the gravel road and landed on its roof. Miller was the only one fatally injured, because he was not wearing his seatbelt. The other two people in the car was Jake Fredrickson, the driver, and another passenger Alex Kircher, were taken to the hospital, but only suffered minor injuries.

His coach described Miller as a “happy-go-luck” kid. The Red Rock Central High School football team decided to forfeit their next game in respect to Miller.

Demarion’s Law Passed in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has passed a new law declaring daycares must have liability insurance to open their doors. Daycare liability insurance would help the family of children who come to harm under the supervision of Oklahoma daycares.

They have named this law Demarion’s Law, after a little boy named Demarion Pittman. Last year he was left in a hot car, and suffered heat stroke and brain damage while under the care of an employee of the daycare. He had a temperature of over 115 degrees when they found him, and stayed in a coma for over two months. Medical expenses, not including emotional and physical strain on the family, for the boy are over one million dollars, and will of course increase as the he grows older.

Oklahoma, Texas, and 28 other states have passed similar laws to keep daycares in check and to help the families who suffer from the irresponsibility of daycare providers.

Hit and Run in WI

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a hit and run car accident that happened August 25 at 8:15pm. Wendy Sime and her brother Ronald were driving a Jeep Cherokee that evening, when out of the blue, they were rear-ended by a Chevy Blazer. The occupants of the Chevy Blazer fled the scene of the crime, leaving poor Wendy and her 16-year-old brother strapped into the seats of their wrecked car.

Although one suspect is still at large, Tyler M. Miller, an occupant of the Chevy Blazer, was located nearby with serious injuries from the crash. Miller is 19 years-old from Stoughton, WI, and was transported to UW hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

VA Woman Files Medical Malpractice Suit

A Palm Beach resident who chooses to go by Elizabeth M. is in the process of filing a medical malpractice lawsuit again the hospital where her hernia operation was preformed in 2004. She claims that while she was recovering in the hospital, her wound was never changes or even checked.
